Career Trends
Making a career of culinary arts
People are busy. They simply don’t have as much time to prepare meals at home the way past generations did. That’s good news for you and your culinary career.
Job growth
The Bureau of Labor Statistics expects openings for chefs, cooks and food preparation workers to be ample through the year 2014. This abundance of job openings can be attributed to more family activities and less time in the kitchen, and the trend of the two-income household that makes it affordable to dine out.
Earnings
The highest salaries in the industry tend to go to those with the education and practical experience. This education and experience allows culinary artists to advance to higher-level and specialized positions. The Bureau of Labor Statistics* reports that chefs and head cooks can earn up to $23.00 per hour.
If you know the kitchen is calling, but you are not exactly sure what career path is best for you, Institute of Technology’s Career Wheel can help! Our graduates have established successful careers in each of these positions. One of them might be right for you!
